2010 Subaru Tribeca Review

Stylish crossover SUV lacking pizzazz

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2010 Subaru Tribeca is a midsize crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) that is offered in three trim levels: Limited, Premium, and Touring. Equipped with a 3.6-liter H-6 engine paired to a five-speed automatic transmission, the Subaru Tribeca comes with all-wheel drive.

Distinguished externally by stylish, swoopy lines, the Subaru Tribeca boasts a unique dashboard design in its upscale interior design. The Tribeca's safety systems are top-notch, earning it perfect crash test scores. EPA-rated fuel economy is in the 16 mpg city / 21 mpg highway range.

New for 2010

For 2010, the Subaru Tribeca has a new, top-of-the-line trim, the Touring, and it is offered only with a seven-passenger configuration. Now, Bluetooth is standard on the Touring and Limited trims, while optional on the Premium trim. There is a new backup camera on trims without a navigation system.

Essentials

Engine: 3.6L H-6
Transmission: 5-speed automatic
Body Style: SUV
Trims: Limited Sport Utility, Premium Sport Utility, Touring Sport Utility

On the Outside

Without the three element grille, the Subaru Tribeca is a much more attractive vehicle sporting smooth flowing lines and prominent wheel arches that make it look sporty yet mature.

From the Inside

Inside the Subaru Tribeca, a curvaceous dash and a clean, user friendly central display are highlighted. While it is a seven-passenger SUV, the Tribeca has a third row that is cramped and probably best suited for smaller passengers.

Driving Performance

The sole engine and transmission choice for the 2010 Subaru Tribeca is a 3.6-liter H-6 engine outputting 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode. Under normal driving conditions, the Subaru Tribeca's all-wheel-drive system channels over 50 percent of the engine's power to the rear wheels.

Safety Equipment

Among the standard safety features for the Subaru Tribeca are four-wheel disc brakes with an antilock brake system (ABS), dual front airbags, side seat mounted airbags, first and second row curtain overhead airbags, airbag occupancy sensor, traction control, stability control, rollover sensor, active front head restraints, and full time all-wheel drive.
