Intro: Few cars have the pedigree of the redesigned 2010 Toyota Camry. This long running mid-size 4-door is among the standard bearers for the family sedan market and for 2010 it only gets better.
The Camry's styling has been slightly updated for 2010, incorporating a more pronounced grille and reworked taillights.
Trims for the 5-passenger Camry are Base, LE, SE, and the XLE model that we drove. Its standard features included 16-inch alloy wheels, all season tires, dual chrome exhaust tips, fog lamps, and a power moonroof.
Performance: The base engine for the Camry is a 2.5-liter inline 4 that makes 169 horsepower in the base model and 179 horsepower in the SE. Both models send power to the front wheels through either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The available 3.5-liter V6 sends 268 horsepower to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic. Both engines provide sufficient power and good fuel economy.
Fuel Economy: Here are the highest and lowest EPA estimates for fuel economy:
Features: Our XLE test model came standard with an 8-speaker JBL audio system with satellite radio capability and auxiliary inputs. The adjustable rear seats were a welcome standard feature, adding a level of comfort to the rear bench.
Other options include the smart key system with push button start, leather seating surfaces with heated front seats and attractive wood inlays. The available navigation package added an integrated backup camera, touch screen with live traffic updates, and an upgraded sound system with iPod connectivity.
Safety: Standard safety features include 4-wheel antilock brakes with electronic brake force distribution, traction control, vehicle stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of front and side impact airbags.
Pricing/Warranty: Base MSRP for the 2010 Toyota Camry is $19,395. The XLE model equipped with the V6 engine starts at $29,045. The Camry is backed by a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Summary: With updated styling, available V6 power, and a long list of available luxury car amenities, there appears to be no end in sight for the Toyota Camry's place among the frontrunners in the family sedan market.
