1999 Toyota Celica Review

A fuel efficient and sporty coupe but not as powerful as some of its competitors.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 1999 Toyota Celica is a two-door sport compact coupe and was a staple of the lineup from 1971 through 2005 when it was discontinued. The body styles include a two-door convertible, a three-door lift back, and a two-door ""Notchback"" coupe. This model's rear door or hatchback is jointed at the roof around where the front windows end and opening into the vehicle but not strictly speaking a hatchback. Models were noted for decent performance from a four-cylinder, sporty exterior and tight handling, and excellent fuel efficiency, having been named a best buy for fuel economy. It spanned seven generations total, moving from compact but a muscle car-type design through the 1970s and early 1980s, to even smaller sporty body styles in the 1980s, to more modern and angular designs complete with air intakes and spoiler in the back.
