The 2007 Toyota Sequoia represents the largest SUV produced by this manufacturer, and it seems perfect for families who need three rows of seating. It draws on the Tundra pickup truck and offers considerable off-road capabilities and towing capacity; luckily Toyota makes it a comfortable SUV to drive on a daily basis. Toyota began producing this model in 2001, and it became the first import to seriously challenge American SUVs.
The Toyota Sequoia carries up to eight passengers. In spite of its huge size it remains narrower than many of its competitors, and while this makes it feel less enormous, it does leave less shoulder room for passengers, and some adults find it a bit too cozy.
However, it makes a good choice for anyone who wants a larger SUV and doesn't mind spending more on fuel. In spite of its huge size seems reasonably refined to drive on the roads and feels easy to handle. It offers a suitable substitute for a minivan, and even though it can be used offroad most Sequoia drivers do not utilize this capacity.
Body Styles: SUV
Engines: 4.7-liter V-8
Transmissions: five-speed automatic
Models: Toyota Sequoia SR5, Toyota Sequoia Limited
New features for the 2007 Toyota Sequoia include front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags, and the safety features cover the first two rows of seats. SR5 models receive a new body-colored grille insert for this year, while the Limited models get chrome mirrors.
The Sequoia’s exterior looks a bit dated. The SR5 comes with 16-inch steel wheels, while the Limited model features 17-inch alloy wheels and running boards. Optional features for both models include a rear load leveling suspension.
The interior seems slightly uninspired, but the build quality and materials look good. Standard seating accommodates eight people, although the Limited model with the optional Luxury package seats only seven as it uses captain’s chairs in the second row. The third row seats fit children, but adults may find them a bit cramped and hard to access. With the second-row seats unbolted from the floor the Sequoia reaches a maximum cargo capacity of 128.1 cubic feet, and the liftgate has a power-down rear window which comes in handy for transporting longer items. If you frequently have to transport a lot of cargo, bear in mind that the third-row seats don't fold flat into the floor.
The SR5 comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, an audio system, cruise control, full power accessories, and power-adjustable front seats. The Limited model features a sunroof, leather upholstery, a better audio system, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a trip computer, and keyless entry.
A lot of these features provide optional extras for the SR5. Optional features for both models include an in-dash CD changer, a rear-seat DVD-based entertainment system, and a navigation system. The Limited model offers a luxury package, which includes second-row bucket seats, faux wood trim, and electroluminescent gauges.
Performance & Handling
All models draw power from a 4.7-liter, V-8 engine that produces 273 hp and 314lb-ft of torque. The five-speed automatic transmission comes standard, and the Sequoia provides a towing capacity of 6500 pounds, considerably less than others in its class. Models utilize either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The 2007 Toyota Sequoia offers a relatively pleasant drive for a full-size SUV, and it maneuvers easily. It doesn't offer terrific acceleration, but it seems adequate for most buyers, especially those who don’t intend to do much towing.
All Sequoias include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags for first- and second-row occupants, and stability and traction control. The 2007 Toyota Sequoia achieves four out of five stars in government crash tests.
