2011 Toyota Sequoia Review

Big on power, comfort, speed

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Toyota Sequoia is a full size sport utility vehicle (SUV) with room for eight passengers with its third-row seating. It is equipped with either a 5.7-liter V-8, 381 horsepower engine or a 4.6-liter, 310 horsepower engine joined to a six-speed automatic transmission. It comes with rear-wheel and 4WD; however, off-road capabilities aren't a priority but comfort certainly is.

The safety features on the 2011 Toyota Sequoia are truly commendable, addressing most aspects of SUV safety. Attractively appointed inside and out, the Sequoia is known for its comfortable ride and smooth handling, even on curves. An EPA fuel economy rating of 13-14 mpg city/18-19 mpg highway might not sound like something to brag about but it's not bad for all that's packaged into the Sequoia.

New for 2011

In 2010, Toyota added the new 4.6-liter, 310-horsepower V-8 to Sequoia options, which has better fuel economy than the 4.7-liter it replaced, and more power, as well. For the 2011 Toyota Sequoia, a brake override system was added, and there is new wood grain on the Platinum trim, while Dark Gray replaces Slate in the color palette, and Nautical Blue and Spruce were dropped altogether.

From the Inside

The Toyota Sequoia's spacious cabin can seat up to eight passengers and offers such creature comforts as three-zone climate control, power windows and doors, Bluetooth, and eight-way-adjustable power seats, while leather, rear-seat entertainment, and heated second-row seats are optional.

Driving Performance

The powerful 5.7-liter, 381-horsepower V-8 and six-speed automatic transmission can get this 6100-pound Toyota Sequoia SUV from 0-to-60 in an impressive 6.7 seconds and breezes through the quarter mile in 15.2 seconds at 91.7 mph. Once at 60 mph, it can stop in 135 feet, all the while providing a comfortable ride, even on twisting roads.
