2011 Toyota Sienna Review

Sets a new standard for minivans

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Toyota Sienna is a minivan that's received a crossover facelift, making changes to its style, interior, and body so that it's more luxurious, attractive, and powerful. Toyota has redesigned the body to have an angular front end and a grille and added the SE sport configuration with sport-like wheels, tuned-suspension, and exceptional sport package.

Equipped with either a 3.5-liter V-6 or a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, the Sienna comes with front-wheel or all-wheel-drive options. Seven or eight passenger layouts are available, and all engines are coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. Features include cool options like three zone climate control, three power ports, seven airbags, and remote keyless entry. The EPA fuel economy rating is 18-19 mpg city/24 mpg highway.

New for 2011

In addition to the new styling, the 2011 Toyota Sienna gets a four-cylinder engine option, a new six-speed automatic transmission, and new trim levels. Some pretty spectacular new interior options on the Toyota Sienna include lounge seating in the second row, a 16.4-inch-wide dual-view entertainment center, and a rear view camera that offers a 180-degree view.

While the Toyota Sienna retains the traditional minivan shape, it gets a new grille and new front- and rear-end treatments, which are intended to make it look more like a crossover. The sporty Sienna SE trim has 19-inch wheels and side skirts.

From the Inside

The 2011 Toyota Sienna's second row slides as much as 23 inches, to make it easier for passengers to get into and out. What's more, the Sienna's third row folds flat, with power option available, and the Sienna's optional lounge seating includes leg and foot support.

Driving Performance

The sporty Toyota Sienna SE, which is new for 2011, comes with a 265-horsepower V-6 engine, its own suspension tuning, and 19-inch wheels. Furthermore, the Sienna LE, with the new 2.7-liter, 187-horsepower four-cylinder, gets the Sienna to 60 mph in 9.5 seconds while providing fuel economy of 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway. A wider track further improves the Sienna's handling.

Safety Equipment

Standard on the 2011 Sienna are seven airbags: dual front, dual front seat-mounted side, three-row side curtain, and driver knee. Also standard are four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist, stability control, and traction control.
