The 2005 Toyota Tacoma is available in three different body styles each with their own sets of models. The 2005 Toyota Tacoma Regular Cab is available in the Base and PreRunner models. The 2005 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab is available in the PreRunner V-6 and V-6 models. The 2005 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab is available in five different models: Base, PreRunner, PreRunner V-6, V-6, and X-Runner V-6. With all the different body styles and models available the 2005 Toyota Tacoma gives the automobile shopper plenty of options to choose from. With engine options including a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with either an automatic or a manual transmission and 4.0-liter V-6 with the choice of automatic or manual transmission. All the different models of the access cab have different features available so the price range and luxury of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma varies with the trim level.

What's New

The 2005 Toyota Tacoma has been totally redesigned. Both engines are a new design. A new electronic throttle control system has been included, which improves both fuel economy and performance. The bed is new, coming with a composite inner bed. The total of four transmissions offered as options are also new.


The 2005 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab and Access Cab body styles have skid plates equipped. The wheels are steel with some models having 15-inch wheels and others having 16-inch wheels. Each model also comes with an all-season full-size spare tire mounted on the underbody. The Access Cab has swing out rear quarter windows. All three body styles come with cargo tie downs to secure cargo carried on the exterior. The Double Cab and Access Cab have painted finish bumpers.


The 2005 Toyota Tacoma has a roomy interior to make the ride comfortable. The Regular Cab and Access Cab have lower quality cloth upholstery on the seats compared to the high quality cloth upholstery on the Double Cab’s seats. The Regular Cab has bench front seats while the Access and Double Cab body styles have bucket seats in the front. The Access Cab and Double Cab have two different size rear seats with the Double Cab being a little roomier and have split-folding seatbacks. Rear air ventilation ducts are also included in the Double Cab. All three styles come with power steering, a 12-volt power outlet, and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel. The Access Cab has extra storage in the console and back of the front seat, and the extra features on the Double Cab are the same. All three body styles have a single-disc CD player. The Regular Cab has four speakers and the other two styles have six speakers.

Performance & Handling

The two different engines available with the 2005 Toyota Tacoma provide the option for either more efficient fuel economy or more power. The four different transmissions available give it even more variety of performance. The four-cylinder has been described as adequate and the Toyota enthusiasts think the V-6 is excellent. It is agile for its size and feels stable while taking corners.


The 2005 Toyota Tacoma has a four-wheel anti-lock brake system with ventilated front discs and rear drum brakes. The Regular Cab has a three point center seat belt in the front and the other two cab styles have a three point center belt in the rear.
