What's New

The 2005 Toyota Tundra is equipped with a 4.0-liter V-6 and 4.7-liter V-8 with the five-speed automatic and six-speed manual are both new combinations. The two-wheel-drive cabs now have the option of the V-8. The four-wheel drive access cabs are not standard with a V-8 and the V-6 is not an option. The regular cab Tundras get a matching grill and a chrome bumper in the 2005 model. The access cab and double cab styles have two new alloy wheel designs. All styles and models have redesigned headlamps and taillights. New gauges are also available. On the double cab models full-length side curtain head airbags are available and front side-impact airbags.

The 2005 Toyota Tundra have 16-steel inch wheels and all season tires. A spare all-season full-size spare tire is mounted on the underbody. The Access Cab and Double Cab Limited submodels have 17-inch alloy wheels. All models except the access cab style have swing out rear quarter windows while the Double Cab style has a rear defogger that helps keep the rear view clearer.

The 2005 Toyota Tundra Regular Cab Base model has very limited interior features. The front seats are roomy bench seats upholstered with average quality cloth. Convenience features that are listed are limited to power steering and a 12-volt power outlet in the front. A cargo area light helps keep a clear view of the bed when loading and unloading after dark. The audio system is a simple four-speaker system with a single disc CD player. The front seats of the Access Cab models are 40/60 split bench seats with cloth upholstery. The Access Cab and Double Cab models have split-folding rear seats upholstered with the same cloth as the front seats. The Access Cab and Double Cab also have a folding center armrest with inside storage in the rear and rear ventilation ducts to keep the rear passengers supplied with fresh air. The access cab and double cab body styles have tilt steering wheels and cruise control on the steering wheel. The Double Cab models also have audio controls on the steering wheel.

Performance & Handling

The 2005 Toyota Tundra's 4.0-liter, V-6 engine produces 245 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque. The 4.7-liter V-8 produces 282 horsepower and 325 ft-lb of torque. The option of the five-speed automatic and six-speed manual on the V-6 adds some variety to the performance with the six-speed manual being more fun for people that enjoy shifting. The max towing capacity is 7100 pounds.

Safety features on the 2005 Toyota Tundra Regular Cab Base model are not numerous. The four-wheel anti-lock brakes have ventilated front discs and rear drums. The passenger airbag system has an occupant sensing switch that deactivates and activates the passenger airbags when the passenger leaves and enters. Electronic brake force distribution helps keep the Base balanced in emergencies when hard braking is necessary. The safety features in the Access Cab and Double Cab models are very similar with the addition of extra airbags for the rear passengers and center three-point seat belts in the front and rear.
