2011 Toyota Venza Review

Great little wagon with great price, power, and comfort

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Toyota Venza is a five-passenger crossover/sport utility vehicle (SUV) that fuses power, comfort, and performance. Sporting either a 3.5 liter V-6 engine delivering 268 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque or a 2.7 liter inline four with 182 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque, the Toyota Venza offers only a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Venza offers a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and can tow 3500 pounds. Toyota's excellent safety equipment come standard on the Venza, and it has a higher ride height for better visibility. The Venza achieves great fuel economy in the 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway range.

New for 2011

The 2011 Toyota Venza is basically a carryover from 2010 and received only minor changes back then in 2010.

Essentials

Engines: 2.7L I-4, 3.5L V-6
Transmission: 6-speed automatic
Body Style: Crossover SUV
Trim: Base Sport Utility

On the Outside

The Toyota Venza has a different grille and a crossover-type cargo area than the Camry sedan but you can tell they are related. The Venza features 19-inch wheels as standard, and 20-inch wheels are optional.

From the Inside

Standard on the Venza are dual-zone climate control, power windows and door locks, and a six-speaker audio. Options are panoramic glass roof, leather power seats, seat heaters, navigation, and rear-seat DVD entertainment.

Driving Performance

The Toyota Venza equipped with the V-6 has plenty of power for its weight and can run 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds and through the quarter mile in 15 seconds flat at 93.7 mph. The Venza's steering is lacking, the 20-inch wheels make the ride a little rough, and the suspension flounders when pushed.

Safety Equipment

Standard on the Toyota Venza are driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger side airbags, two-row seat side curtain airbags, and driver knee airbags. Enhanced stability control, traction control, and ABS with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist are standard as well.

Gas Mileage

2.7L FWD: 21 mpg city/29 mpg hwy
2.7L AWD: 20 mpg city/28 mpg hwy
3.5L FWD: 19 mpg city/26 mpg hwy
3.5L AWD: 18 mpg city/25 mpg hwy

  • Pretty nice interior
  • Great ergonomics
  • Abundant cargo space
  • Very good fuel economy

Minuses

  • Four-cylinder power
  • Rough ride with 20-inch wheels
  • Steering doesn't have great feel
