Acura MDX Information
A mid-size luxury crossover SUV, the Acura MDX was introduced to the market in 2001. This vehicle was to take the place of the Acura SLX, which was not selling as well as the company would have liked in the United States. In Japan the MDX filled the spot that was left open by the Honda Horizon. Many consumers took notice of the Acura MDX because it offered third row seating, which hadn't yet been an option in any crossover SUV in this class. The first generation of the Acura MDX was a front wheel drive system and a five speed automatic. Starting in 2003 the vehicle was offered with a navigation option that included a navigation system. Consumers could also order an entertainment package that provides DVD to passengers. In 2007 the second generation of the Acura MDX began. This generation of the vehicle has a longer and wider base. The new engine is the most powerful in the Acura lineup at the time of manufacturing, as the MDX is powered by a 3.7 liter 24 valve single overhead cam V6 VTEC. The second generation will be manufactured in the Honda of Canada Manufacturing Ltd. located in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.
