General Motors Corporation (GM) created the Chevrolet Avalanche in 2002, a four-door sport utility truck that combines the control and capabilities afforded by a Sport Utility Vehicle and a pickup. The 2007 model is fitted with a 320 horsepower Vortec 5.3L V8 engine with Active Fuel Management, or a 366 horsepower Vortec 6.0L V8 engine with Variable Valve Timing and Active Fuel Management. The exclusive GM MidgateTM is also included. Lower the MidgateTM, fold forward the rear seats, and the six-seat Avalanche becomes a full-size pickup with three seats and an 8 foot by 4 foot protected cargo box. More room can be obtained by securely storing the removable rear window against the MidgateTM. With a choice of rear-wheel or high/low four-wheel drive, the Avalanche is adaptable for family rides or off-road drives. The Chevrolet Avalanche bear the gold Chevrolet Bowtie in the center of the front grill which, together with the two front lamps, is split by a full-length chrome strip.
