In 2000 GMC brought out its version of the suburban and called it the GMC Yukon XL 1500. This half-ton vehicle was the offspring of a long line of GM brand models of the suburban going back to 1935. A version has been in production since then under one of the many GM brand names. The delivered transmission was first brought out in either a 3 or 4 speed automatic or a manual transmission. The engine has been a V8 with increasing HP. GMC has the Yukon, Chevy has the Suburban and Cadillac the Escalade. All three vehicles are similar in design and properties. The customer can get a version of the Yukon in many of the GM brands and the choice is the brand, more than any real differences in the vehicles features
