As of 2008 the Crown Victoria will be sold only in fleet sales and not through dealerships to the general public. This model since its first appearance in 1955 has been a popular car from the Ford line-up. The police interceptor version was highly thought of by police departments across the land. Taxi companies also found its rugged construction and reliability worth the price of ownership. Although it was not the least expensive to drive, it held up even when in constant use. The historical relevance of the Crown Victoria can now be put in a place of respect similar to the Model T. This venerable name has been part of the Ford car models for over fifty years. Like many names put out to pasture by a car company, do not be surprised if it shows up again in the future. In the meantime, car historians will hold the Crown Victoria in a place of respect.
