Built on the base of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Jeep Commander is a mid-size SUV with seating for seven, plenty of cargo space, and great standard safety features. Two trim levels are available. The base level comes with a V6 engine standard while a V8 is standard in the Limited. A responsive five-speed automatic transmission is standard, and this SUV has a 7,200 lb tow capacity. A V8 HEMI engine is available for the Limited as well, allowing somewhat greater fuel efficiency. A number of important safety features are standard on the Jeep Commander, including side curtain airbags, front side airbags, antiskid technology, rollover sensor, antilock brakes, and rear obstacle detection. This SUV provides a quiet and unusually smooth ride. Drivers and passengers will be comfortable; however, reviewers have noted that the third row is best suited for children. Available options include a navigation system, rearview camera, and DVD entertainment package.
