William C. Durant left the General Motors Corp. (GM), in the early 1900's and began working with Louis Chevrolet in an effort to establish the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. The company made its first automobile offering as early as 1912, and in 1914 Chevrolet's were manufactured with the bowtie appearing logo - Durant's design based on a wallpaper print in one of Paris's hotels. In 1918, the Chevy Motor Car Company proved quite successful, and Durant bought shares in GM; the Chevy Motor Corporation then became a subsidiary of GM and maintained incredible success into the 1920s. By the late '20s, Chevrolet Motor Corp. was selling more vehicles than its major competitors: and in 1934 the company introduced the concept of independent suspensions. In the early fifties, the public saw the emergence of Chevrolet's famous Corvette; in the sixties the Camaro was introduced; and the '70s saw the introduction of cars like the Chevy Malibu and Caprice. By the eighties, the Chevy Corporation was manufacturing trucks and sports utility vehicles, and the company still manufactures a variety of automobiles, SUVs, and trucks today.
