Pontiac automobiles, including sedans, sports cars, SUVs and crossover SUVs currently, are produced by General Motors, and have been since 1926. This mid-range automotive line is stylish and sporty, emphasizing performance. Advertising typically targets a younger demographic, and sportier body styles are featured. Engine performance has been an important feature of this product line since the beginning, with the earliest models offering an affordable 6-cylinder engine option. From 1926 to 1956, the company used a Native American head as a logo, but that was replaced by the red arrowhead design still used today. The Pontiac GTO is one of the most notable parts of the history of this branch of General Motors. This car blended race car and drag car components, and began the 1960's muscle car era. In 1968, the GTO was voted car of the year. Also responsible for introducing the sports coupe to the market, this automotive line has a long history of combining performance and style in an affordable package for the public.
