Volkswagen has decided to enter the "4-door coupe" market segment with its all-new 2009 CC. The functionality of 4-seats and 4-doors is met with a sharply raked roof and overall coupe-like proportions.
The base engine for the CC is a 200 horsepower 2.9-liter turbocharged inline-4. A 280 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 is also available. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. A 6-speed manual is available with the inline-4, while V6's have the option of 4MOTION all wheel drive.
Fuel economy for the CC ranges from 17 miles per gallon city to 31 miles per gallon highway.
The upscale interior of the CC can be outfitted with the available technology package that includes a navigation and entertainment system. Located in the center console, the one touch screen operates everything from maps to the Dynaudio premium sound system.
Base MSRP for the 2009 Volkswagen CC at the time of this program's production is $27,100. A VR6 4MOTION with full options selected will top out at around $42,000. The CC is backed by a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
While the 4-door coupe market is relatively new and dominated by far more expensive cars, the all-new Volkswagen CC looks to take this formula to a far more mainstream market.
