2013 Volkswagen CC Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

The original concept of the Volkswagen CC was that of a four-door coupe, that is to say, a car with coupe style that was suitable for a family. Originally introduced as the Passat CC five years earlier, today’s 2013 Volkswagen CC retains that coupe style, but with more touches to make it a competitive alternative to your typical midsize sedan. The Volkswagen CC doesn’t have quite the space of some of those midsize sedans, but it does offer comfort, style, and decent power at a fairly good price. Your basic choices are between the Sport and Lux models, depending on whether you want an emphasis on sportiness and affordability or luxury. The Lux is the decked out version of the Sport model, with all the options of the Sport Plus, a luxury interior, and some additional exterior options.

New For 2013

The new Volkswagen CC has mostly cosmetic changes, with new front and rear styling to help it fit in better stylistically with the rest of the Volkswagen line, along with some changes to the interior. The main changes you’ll probably notice in the 2013 Volkswagen CC include:

  • Newly redesigned front grille
  • Rear three person bench seat instead of two individual seats
  • Redesigned airdam

Exterior

The exterior of the 2013 Volkswagen CC shows off that coupe style in a midsize sedan body that is the CC’s hallmark. A newly designed airdam adds to the overall aerodynamic feel and the wide grille and daytime running lights create a nice overall presentation. Appealing available exterior features on the Volkswagen CC include LED taillights, bi-xenon headlights with low speed corner illumination, 18-inch Mallory or St. Louis alloy wheels, power tinted tilt glass sunroof, and power rear sunshade. The 2013 Volkswagen CC comes in a nice variety of colors, including Candy White, Night Blue, Fontana Red, Deep Black, and Iron Gray.

Interior & Cargo

The interior of the Volkswagen CC features a leatherette interior (real leather in the VR6) with simulated alloy trim. The Lux models feature dark brushed aluminum trim and interior ambient lighting. You’ll find a Touchscreen Premium VIII sound system with Bluetooth technology and navigation computer, along with dual zone climate control with pollen filter. You’ll also enjoy comfortable eight-way power front seats with power lumbar support, and multi-level heated seat feature. The sound system includes AM/FM, available Sirius XM satellite radio and CD player with MP3. The VR6 4MOTION really turns up the luxury with a Dynaudio premium sound system, premium color multi-function trip computer display, and front seats with active ventilation and driver’s seat massage.

Trunk space is a fairly meager 13.2 cubic feet. This isn’t a car to take the whole clan on a cross country adventure, but it doesn’t pretend to be.

Safety

Parking is as easy as it’s ever been with the 2013 Volkswagen CC, with available Park Distance Control and rearview camera. You’ll also find brake disc drying to maximize braking power, electronic stability control, intelligent crash response system, and crash optimized front end, all of which combined to make the Volkswagen CC a 2012 IIHS Top Safety Pick. Other important safety features include a four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), front and rear head airbags, dual front side-mounted airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, driver and passenger whiplash protection systems, and electronic brake force distribution. For theft control, the Volkswagen CC has an alarm system and engine immobilizer; and for child safety, you’ll find child safety locks and child seat anchors.

Driving Experience

Both trims are available with the environmentally-conscious Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) engine. The Sport trim comes with a peppy 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission that delivers 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. Upgrade to the Sport Plus for the Tiptronic shiftable six-speed automatic transmission. The V6 Lux upgrades you to the luxury package with a powerful 3.6-liter, V-6 engine, while the top of the line model, the VR6 4MOTION Executive, gives you all that with the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system and even more luxury options.

The Volkswagen CC is a comfortable ride, with a tight suspension and reliable steering that allows you good control on the road, but if you’re looking for a car that you can take out for a high speed spin on those twisting mountain roads, you’re going to have to upgrade all the way to the top, the VR6 4MOTION, with all-wheel drive and the V-6 engine. However, for your daily commute and weekend trips with the family, the standard model’s turbocharged, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine should be plenty of car to meet your needs, offering a fuel economy of 22/31 mpg city/highway.
