Both engines propel the Golf from zero to 60 mph in about eight seconds. Fuel economy is excellent, averaging around 30/42 mpg city/highway.
The Golf has a very solid feel on the road. It is built with an independent strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and coil springs teamed with a multilink rear suspension with a stabilizer bar and coil springs, providing a good degree of stability and comfort. Handling is adequate with no noticeable body roll, and power steering is responsive and firm. Braking is as good as it gets – firm and predictable.
