2010 Volkswagen Tiguan Review

Pricey SUV with luxury interior and top-notch safety

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan is a luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) crossover that's stylish, attractive, and even posh inside the cabin. Propelled by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, the Tiguan offers a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, which is a combination that offers superb performance and good fuel economy as well, coming in at 18 mpg city / 25 mpg highway.

Offered as a front- or all-wheel drive vehicle, which sports a 4Motion feature, the Tiguan features such luxury items as power adjustable leather seating, touch screen audio features, Bluetooth connectivity, 18-inch wheels, and dual zone climate controls. Last but certainly not least, the Volkswagen Tiguan boasts top safety ratings.

New for 2010

For 2010, the VW Tiguan gained standard Bluetooth for the SE and SEL trim levels and a new Wolfsburg trim also debuted.

Transmissions: 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic

On the Outside

Sporting a clean, sporty appearance, the Volkswagen Tiguan is smartly styled. Some notable optional upgrades include alloy wheels ranging in size from 16 to 18 inches, integrated roof racks, and bi-Xenon headlights.

From the Inside

Well-placed controls and high quality materials grace the Volkswagen Tiguan's luxury interior. Excellent headroom that is suitable for all sizes of passengers, an adjustable front armrest, and audio input round out a well-appointed cabin.

Driving Performance

The 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is quite energetic but restrained by the Volkswagen Tiguan's heavy curb weight, resulting in a 0 to 60 mph trek of 8.2 seconds. Firm and sporty with good grip, the ride is decisively German yet comfortable for around town and long trips. However, the steering is less impressive, due to being somewhat light and over-boosted.

Safety Equipment

Safety systems on the Volkswagen Tiguan include stability and traction control systems, driver and front passenger front and side airbags, and front and rear side curtain head airbags, while rear side thorax airbags are optional.

Gas Mileage
