2000 Volvo C70 Review
Swedish style and fun.
Reviewed by Automotive on
Introduced in 1997, the Volvo C70 went from its typical boxy shape to a Volvo featuring a newer design in 2000. The 2000 Volvo C70 delivers the safety associated with the brand, but still offers an appealing design.
The Volvo C70 coupe offers dependability and safety in a stylish package. The convertible model delivers power, speed, and looks with standard Volvo safety features. With a lot of room to make passengers comfortable and a look to kill, the Volvo C70 is worth its price tag.
Engines: 2.3-liter five-cylinder, 2.4-liter five-cylinder
Transmissions: four-speed automatic, five-speed manual
Models: Volvo C70 HT, Volvo C70 LT
The 2000 Volvo C70 convertible joins the lineup with a high-pressure turbo to add sex appeal to a line that has reliability and comfort conquered. A power glass sunroof provides an option for the coupe, while the convertible offers a power soft top with a glass rear window and a defogger. Homelink has also been added as a standard feature for the coupe this model year.
Nine exterior color options are available, giving 2000 Volvo C70 owners more options. Those include white, black, turquoise metallic, green metallic, moondust metallic, nautic blue metallic, red, red metallic, and silver metallic. Tinted glass, 16-inch alloy wheels, a power antenna, power heated mirrors, and fog lights add to the style and charm the 2000 Volvo C70 already exudes. The convertible offers optional 17-inch alloy wheels.
The 2000 Volvo C70’s interior comes in beige, gray, or silver. Standard amenities include bucket seats, a center console, power windows and door locks, and a keyless, lighted entry system. Additional features include a power driver’s seat with memory, a tachometer, and leather seating.
The interior also offers a premium audio system and a tilt and telescopic steering wheel. Four adults travel in the 2000 Volvo C70 coupe with reasonable comfort, although entry to the back seat proves difficult for someone of a bigger stature. Access for tall drivers and/or passengers has been made easier by installing a power passenger seat. However, this fails somewhat due to the lethargy exhibited by the seat’s power adjustment.
The convertible also offers a trip computer, an auto-dimming mirror, and genuine wood dash inlays. Optional features for the convertible include heated seats and leather trim.
Performance & Handling
Traction control and a turbocharged engine provide optimal power and handling to all 2000 Volvo C70 drivers. The two engine options—a 2.3-liter five-cylinder or a 2.4-liter five-cylinder—provide either 190 or 236 horsepower and 199 or 244 lb-ft of torque, respectively. Either engine option provides more than enough power and confidence for anyone to drive this Volvo in style.
The 2000 Volvo C70 comes loaded with safety features. It features a four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS), driver and passenger front airbags, and front side airbags to keep everyone safe. For ample lighting, the 2000 C70 includes daytime running lights, fog lights, and headlight cleaners, which gives the driver ample ability to see inside and out.
