2007 Volvo S60 Review

A good mix of a sport and luxury sedan rolled into one.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2007 Volvo S60 is a midsized luxury sedan with plenty going for it. This car is offered in three trim levels with plenty of standard equipment and options to satisfy any tastes. The S60 is attractive, with lots of European flare and style on the inside and out. This model is equipped with standard features, such as a power driver seat with memory, CD player, and a telescoping steering wheel, among many others. As an added bonus, the S60 is one of the safest cars made for the 2007 model year, and it scored very well on the various crash tests.

The Range

Body Styles: Midsize luxury sedan
Engines: turbocharged inline five-cylinder, 2.4 liter five-cylinder, 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder
Transmissions: five-speed automatic, six-speed manual, six-speed automatic
Models: S60 2.5T, S60 T5, S60 R

What's New

Each 2007 Volvo S60 trim level receives some upgrades for the model year. All of the S60s are now standard with stability control and a tire pressure monitor. Additionally, all models also have a redesigned front fascia. On the 2.5T and 5T models, Volvo adds some aluminum trim and a tighter suspension tuning. The R model receives a sunglasses holders, grocery bag hook, and a compass.

For anyone familiar with Volvo or Swedish car makers in general, there is no doubt where the 2007 S60 hails from. This stylish and attractive luxury sedan definitely has a certain Scandinavian appeal. With modern, sleek lines and an assertive front end, the S60 will attract plenty of positive attention. This sedan fits in wherever it goes. For its price range, the S60 is impressive on the outside.

The Volvo S60’s style doesn’t stop on the exterior. This sedan offers plenty of style on the inside as well. The controls are well weighted and easy to use once the accompanying pictograms have been deciphered. The front seats are spacious and very comfortable. Those in the back seat may find that leg room is limited, especially for adults. Nothing improves the interior cabin quite like choosing the leather upholstery option along with the Dolby surround sound audio system. In terms of cargo space, the S60 offers 14 cubic feet of space with the 40/60 split on the back seat.

Performance & Handling

Drivers will find the brakes on all 2007 Volvo S60 models are excellent and very responsive. The engine on the 2.5T model offers sufficient power for most drivers. This model offers a comfortable ride, but like the others in the series, it's a bit rough over bumps and on less-than-maintained roads. On the 5T edition, the turbocharged engine lags, especially during acceleration. The R model is the most fun to drive and offers more power and better handling. The suspension in this car is adaptable in different modes, making it a good choice for all kinds of driving situations.

Volvo is famous for its dedication to safety, and there are several examples of this in the 2007 S60. All models have front side airbags and full length curtain airbags for the rest of the cabin. Seats equipped with whiplash reducing head restraints are standard as well. Traction and stability control are added on for additional security and naturally, all models have anti-lock brakes. The R edition also has rear parking assist as an option.

In government and independent testing, the 2007 Volvo S60 performed very well. The 2007 S60 earned four out of five stars for front impact collusion, and five out of five stars for front side and rear collusion. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety awarded the S60 a ""good"" rating for frontal offset crash.
