Beauty inside and out, plus power and safety make this sedan a winner

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Volvo S60 is a midsize luxury sport sedan with a stylish new low-slung profile. The all-wheel-drive S60 is powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-six engine churning out 300 horsepower, coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission featuring sport and manual shift modes.

Continuing in its tradition of offering outstanding safety features, Volvo has equipped the 2011 S60 with a new pedestrian detection feature, which can trigger full braking force to help you avoid hitting a pedestrian. Also offered is a 180-degree front-mounted video camera to extend your vision in blind spots. Fuel economy for the Volvo S60 is average for a six-cylinder sedan at 18 city mpg/26 mpg highway

New for 2011

In addition to a totally new exterior, the completely redesigned 2011 Volvo S60 boasts a long list of standard equipment, including a 18-inch alloy wheels, eight-way power front seats with memory settings for the driver, a sport-tuned dynamic chassis, driver-selectable speed sensitive steering, leather upholstery, and HD radio.

On the Outside

The Volvo S60 represents a clear move away from its previous boxy design heritage and toward a modern new design philosophy. While the new midsize C60 is still on the small side of its class, it's actually one inch longer, and two inches wider than its predecessor.

From the Inside

Inside, the 2011 Volvo S60 displays tasteful class, sculpted seats with headrests, "floating" center stack control panel, and optional Urbane Wood accents.

Driving Performance

With its 300 horsepower engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, the Volvo S60 can achieve zero to 60 mph in about 6.2 seconds. Furthermore, its all-wheel drive system helps it retain its stability. The S60’s handling is a good compromise of ride comfort and sport maneuverability, via its sport-oriented dynamic chassis and driver-selectable, speed sensitive steering.

Safety Equipment

Standard safety features on the Volvo S60 include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, whiplash-reducing front head restraints and a new feature to help the driver avoid rear-ending other vehicles or stationary objects by automatically applying the brakes in an emergency. Among the optional safety features are the new pedestrian detection system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning system, a side blind spot warning system, and front blind-view camera.
